Double direction tapered roller thrust bearings are designed to accommodate axial loads in both directions, with very limited radial load capacity. They consist of a shaft washer with an inner diameter slightly smaller than that of the seat washer, two seat washers with an outer diameter slightly larger than that of the shaft washer, and two tapered roller and cage assemblies.
The seat washers have tapered raceways, while the shaft washer has flat raceways. The tapered lines of the raceways and tapered rollers are inclined to ensure smooth rolling.
